Moving ahead on canola plant; a "Champion" barley

Washington Ag Today July 21, 2011 Construction of an 11-hundred metric ton a day canola processing facility in Warden, Washington is moving forward. That announcement came this week from Legumex Walker Inc of Canada. The company owns 85 percent of Pacific Coast Canola located in Seattle, which is building the plant and will operate it. The facility is expected be operational in 2013. It will produce canola oil and high-quality canola meal.

The Washington Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service reports that the top planted barley variety in Washington this year was Champion, a WestBred feed variety. It was planted on nearly four times as many acres as last year.

Now this from Stockland Livestock.

This is Jack McQuinness at Stockland Livestock in Davenport. 575 cattle on the market at our sale Monday. Good strong sale for the cows and bulls. Call that part of it fully steady. Top of 78 with most of the cows in mid to high 60s. Bulls, same story there. Top in the low 90s. Most of the bull trade in the high 80s and into that low 90s figure. Feeder cattle fully steady. Had some of those seven-weight cattle into the mid-30s. Five-weight cattle up as high as 153. Heifers trading ten to 12 back. Don’t forget a busy week next week. We’ve got cattle on Monday, small animals on Tuesday and a horse sale on the 30th. Thanks for your business. Thanks for listening.

Thanks Jack.
