USDA Reminds Pacific Northwest Producers of Fall Crop Sales Closing Dates. The USDA’s Risk Management Agency (RMA) reminds Idaho, Oregon and Washington producers of the important 2013 crop year sales closing deadlines for Multi-Peril Crop Insurance programs: “We are pleased to offer coverage for the 2013 crop year to all qualifying producers in Idaho, Oregon and Washington,” said RMA Spokane Regional Office Director Dave Paul. I called Risk Management spokesperson JoLynne Seufer: “When you send out all of this stuff about crop insurance, does that cover drought? Yes it does but in that same light, like if it’s an irrigated crop and it is insured for irrigation normally those that are not here gated crops. If they have a ditch full of water and they are still able to irrigate and there is a drought and it is insured as and irrigated practice, they are not going to get a loss payment. But if they were for example dry land wheat, yes, then it does cover drought. It would seem to me given that what is happening in this country right now it would be a pretty good idea to get drought insurance. Yes. My family in Eastern Colorado just collected on their wheat because they harvested their week in June. Because they are that far south, when they turned in their production evidence, their yields were little to nothing. So you are very, very, very right. Well there’s a 1st time for everything.
