Ag Weather Impacts

If you're looking for a change in the cold unsettled weather pattern, you're going to have a wait a little longer. Another north pacific cold front will travel through the inland northwest this afternoon and overnight with rain and snow showers into Saturday and Sunday mainly south of Toppenish to Walla Walla. Then colder air from British Columbia will push south into the region Sunday night and Monday with temperatures 15 degrees below normal for much of next week. Snowfall late Saturday through Monday of 4 to 6 inches is possible in the southern Columbia Basin with only a couple inches or less in the central and northern portions. Plan on a drier period for Tuesday into Thursday and then another round of snow for next Friday. Looking farther out, the cold unsettled and active weather pattern is likely to continue well into the first week of March. Yesterday's NOAA's Climate Prediction center issued the preliminary outlook for all of March and they are expecting temperatures to average closer to normal. So it's likely after the first week of March we'll see temperatures consistently in the 50s. The outlook is also showing precipitation close to normal, so the pattern of 1 to 2 weather systems each week looks like it will continue at least for the first 3 weeks of March. Summing up, field work is getting a late start and catch up opportunities may be limited.
