A 12-year old Colorado girl suing the Attorney General of the US is getting lots of experience telling her story and has a growing fan base backing her in her fight.

6th grader Alexis Bortell and her family moved to Colorado from Texas so she can have legal access to cannabis oil which she says does not have an intoxicating effect on her but has allowed her to go her nearly 3 years free of deadly seizures from epilepsy.

She has had several interviews locally and told Headline News Network the cannabis has allowed her to be a regular kid.

"It certainly makes me feel more free but I can't travel anywhere legally with my medicine."

While cannabis is legal in Colorado, the federal government still classifies it as a dangerous drug. Attorney General Jeff Sessions is an outspoken opponent of legalized marijuana.

But Alexis' attorney points out that the federal government holds a medical patent on cannabis in which it has represented to the patent office and to the World Intellectual Property Oorganization that it does have medical benefits.

Team Alexis as they are now known say a federal court has denied the government's motion to dismiss the case and has ordered and expedited trial date.
