An Opportunity to help Shape What Americans Eat

The Department of Agriculture and is making changes to the it's Dietary Guidelines for Americans or the DGA and wants all Americans to give their input.

Brandon Lipps, is Acting Deputy Under Secretary of Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services.

Lippman says the public comment period will be open from now until March 30th. The link for comments can be found at www.dietaryguidelines.gov. And he says this time the guidelines will have a new focus.

"The purpose of the Dietary Guidelines is to provide food based recommendations to maintain health and prevent diet-related chronic disease."

The USDA and HHS are looking for questions and comments in four areas.

The final list of questions will form the scope of the new advisory committee. The new guidelines will be developed for the period 2020 through 2025.
