Stock Show Changes part 2. I’m Greg Martin with Colorado Ag Today.

Paul Andrews, President and CEO of the National Western Stock Show says they are looking to make some changes surrounding the long running show in the form of a permanent venue that would be open all year long allowing it to host other shows similar to the stock show.

ANDREWS:Those sort of events and agricultural conventions. That leadership of different ag related businesses that would hold their conventions could hold it anytime throughout the year at the National Western Center and have it be an agriculturally focused event going on at the veneer while you’re having your convention. So it’s really going to set us into a very different business model than we’re in today.

Beef has been enjoying some relatively high prices lately so that makes for happy cattle producers but Andrews doesn't think that will affect the show.

ANDREWS: I suppose that is a factor as far as the prices and the hype of the prices but at the end of the day our livestock show, we consider it to be the super bowl of livestock shows even in years when beef prices are low our show is still one of the strongest in the nation so I think for our particular show there’s probably less of an impact where beef prices are as far as the quality of our show.

Dates for the National Western Stock Show are January 10 - 25 and you can expect record crowds again this year. Get more details at national western.com.

And that’s today’s report. I’m Greg Martin, thanks for listening to Colorado Ag Today on the Ag Information Network of the West.
