Water Issues To Be Discussed

Water Issues To Be Discussed. I’m Greg Martin along with lacy Gray for Colorado Ag Today.

GRAY: The 2015 Governor’s Forum on Colorado Agriculture is underway today and as part of the daylong conference focusing on water needs across the state of Colorado and the challenges created by increased demand for water from agriculture and consumers, Gov. John Hickenlooper will welcome industry experts, scholars, producers and policy-makers to debate the issue.

MARTIN: The event titled, “Water, Colorado’s Treasure,” will include a number of timely talks and breakout sessions. Joining the governor will be new Colorado Commissioner of Agriculture Don Brown and 7NEWS Chief Meteorologist Mike Nelson among other industry leaders. The annual event is co-hosted by the Colorado Agricultural Leadership Program, the Colorado Department of Agriculture and Colorado State University.

GRAY: Agriculture remains a central component of the Colorado economy and has contributed more than $40 billion to the state economy and creates nearly 173,000 jobs each year. The Governor’s Forum on Colorado Agriculture is held in conjunction with the Farm Credit Colorado Agriculture Hall of Fame induction ceremony where CSU Professor of Animal Sciences Temple Grandin will be inducted.

MARTIN: A number of other breakout sessions during the forum will include “How to maximize the value of your water by enhancing the environmental benefits of irrigation”; “Food Safety: Understanding the rules for agricultural water” and “Value of Ag Water” among others.

And that’s Colorado Ag Today. I’m Greg Martin, thanks for listening on the Ag Information Network of the West.
