House Bill 1344

House Bill 1344. I’m Greg Martin with Colorado Ag Today.

The National Western Stock Show complex needs to make some changes if it’s to continue to be one of the premier shows in the nation and it just may be getting that help to grow. Paul Andrews is the Prudent and CEO for the National Western Stock Show and he discusses House Bill 1344.

ANDREWS: It supports the creation of the National Western Center in the course of the next decade which will be a place where education in agriculture would be celebrated 365 days a year and drive estimated economic impacts of near $200-million dollars per year and hosting around 300 events each year. The bill supports the funding of buildings related to Colorado State University that would be on the campus and those buildings would be used by CSU programming-wise throughout the National Western Center.

The ag committee has unanimously passed the bill to the floor. Andrews says the conditions of the current complex have been degrading.

ANDREWS: There’s been study after study after study and the complex has been deemed obsolete in many, many ways and we’re about to have the RTD cut through the center of our property with the North Metro Line which would open around 2017 so they are set to begin construction right through the heart of our site.

The National Western Stock Show had its second largest attendance this year with over 682-thousand people.

And that’s Colorado Ag Today. I’m Greg Martin, thanks for listening on the Ag Information Network of the West.
