Y Cross Ranch For Sale

Y Cross Ranch For Sale

Y Cross Ranch For Sale. I’m Greg Martin with Lacy Gray for Colorado Ag Today.

MARTIN: The 50,000 acre Y Cross Ranch in Wyoming and jointly owned by the University of Wyoming Foundation and Colorado State University Research Foundation is going to be sold off.

GRAY: The universities plan to split the proceeds between the two universities and go toward endowments for agriculture scholarships and internships. Officials say the scholarships and internships will honor the intent of the original gift of the ranch. The ranch sprawls over a scenic and barely developed area and even though the Nature Conservancy has a conservation easement which limits development the sale could net several million dollars.

MARTIN: Back in 1997, a wealthy Denver philanthropist donated the land to the schools with the intent that the ranch serve as a field classroom for agriculture students. Three years ago when the schools began preparation to sell the land they were met with a lawsuit that said selling the ranch would violate the intent of the gift.

GRAY: After the Wyoming Supreme Court ruled there wasn’t enough grounds for the suit and the subsequent death of the woman the idea of the sale continued. The ranch, located between Laramie and Cheyenne, will be marketed by Ranch Marketing Associates, which was selected by the foundations in 2012.

MARTIN: School officials believe that the proceeds will be put to a better use although specifics have not been ironed at at this time.

And that’s Colorado Ag Today. I’m Greg Martin, thanks for listening on the Ag Information Network of the West.
