Colorado Hay Report

With last week’s Colorado Hay Report, here is Heath Dewey from the Greeley USDA office.
Dewey: “Compared to last week, trade activity is slow with demand light. Dairy quality alfalfa hay is starting to trade in the country with interest coming from the Texas Panhandle. Demand for cow hay is on an as-need basis. The US Drought monitor has little to no change on drought severity across the state from the prior week. According to the NASS Colorado Crop Progress Report from the week ending of June 29th, first cutting of alfalfa is at 80 percent. Second cutting is at 2 percent. Pasture and Range conditions in Colorado were 1 percent very poor, 13 percent poor, 24 percent fair, 47 percent good and 15 percent excellent. In Northeast Colorado areas FOB prices for large squares of supreme Alfalfa is $200 and large squares of fair alfalfa trading at $125. Small squares of premium grass hay is at $255. In the Southeast Colorado areas FOB prices for large squares of fair alfalfa is $100. Small squares of good alfalfa is $175 or $6 per bale and ground hay at the stack is $90. FOB prices for the San Luis Valley on large squares of premium alfalfa is at $205 with good trading for $195. There were no reported quotes for any class of hay out of the mountains for Northwest areas of Colorado.”
