Colorado Wheat Legislative Priorities

The Colorado Association of Wheat Growers has been watching closely the bills that have been introduced into the Senate and House of Representatives this session. CAWG President Randy Traxler

Traxler: "We are following a bill of relocation of prairie dogs out in rural areas. Hoping County Commissioners as well as Conservation District is noticed of the relocation. We are also looking at various water bills that are coming on. We haven't seen a full draft of any of them yet, but we are concerned any time Colorado water law is trying to be changed."

Traxler encourages wheat growers to participate in the process.

Traxler: "People can go to the Colorado Wheat website and be able to look at some of the bills we are paying attention to — and see if there is any interest on their part. Anytime we can get participation from our growers it is a valuable asset. Legislators really respond to talking to producers."

Newer bills within the House of Representatives that CAWG has taken a supportive position on include House Bill 1181, Local Government Fracking Ban Liable Royalties, House Bill 1194, Income Tax Deduction for Leasing Out Ag Asset, and House bill 1256, South Platte Water Storage Study.

As the session continues, CAWG will continue working with Capitol Focus to take action on bills that have the potential to impact the agricultural industry.
