Introducing CCALT's Conservation Intern

Montana native Jon Byerly is a veteran and current Colorado State University student enrolled in the Rangeland Ecology program. He is the CO Cattlemen's Agricultural Land Trust Conservation Intern this summer. Before enrolling at CSU, he served our nation in the Army from 2004-2013. Byerly completed tours of duty in both Iraq and Afghanistan. After graduation, Byerly plans to apply his range management skills in a career that helps private landowners use sound practices in managing their lands.

Byerly: "I was looking for something I could study that would give me opportunities to go back to where I'm from in Montana and contribute and be able to help out agricultural working families. Part of it is that I care about the environment and protecting it and this gives me a good chance to help with that."??Byerly will be based out of CCALT's Steamboat Springs office and will assist with easement monitoring, baseline production and other conservation projects. The internship is a partnership between CCALT and the Private Lands Conservation Initiative in CSU's Warner College of Natural Resources. He shares what he is enjoying so far about his internship.

Byerly: "Part of the job is monitoring existing conservation easements, so we've been traveling around to these different ranches. It's been really great to see these different properties around Northeastern Colorado. I've really enjoyed that."
