Ag Day At the Capitol is March 22nd

The annual celebration of Colorado's agricultural producers and agribusinesses will be held on Wednesday, March 22nd at the Capitol Building in Denver. Colorado Agriculture Council's David Collie shares more details.

Collie: "Participants are able to enjoy a multitude of Colorado products. So we have these chefs — similar to an Iron Chef cookoff — we give them products and educate the state legislators and the governor and a lot of other folks who aren't on a farm every day — where Colorado Proud products come from. So we pair up House and Senate legislators with chefs - - pair up and create these dishes. We will have Colorado lamb, eggs and egg producers there. We'll have Colorado beef, Western Dairy Association, Colorado Potatoes, Colorado Pork — we've just got so many different Colorado products there. It is an event you don't want to miss.

The event also recognizes the ag industry's incredible generosity to those in need, as Colorado producers continue to be some of the biggest supporters of the state's food banks as Collie explains

Collie: "We take donations leading up to the event but we also tally over the past year how much farmers and ranchers had either in cash or kind donations to the Food Bank of the Rockies and Feeding Colorado. From there the food and donations go to the various food banks and then food pantries inside of Colorado."
