President Trump signed an omnibus appropriations bill funding the government through fiscal year 2017. Despite earlier budget numbers from the President, key conservation programs received adequate and in some cases increased funding for the year. One of the recipients of the President's generous support of conservation measures was Ducks Unlimited. Here is Whitney Tawney, Senior Water Policy Advisor for Ducks Unlimited. "I work on water conservation efforts along with the North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA) and the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI). I am not a biologist I am a lobbyist."

Whitney's lobbying efforts have apparently worked. Ducks Unlimited CEO Dale Hall said: "We thank Congress and the President for recognizing the importance of conservation provisions benefitting sportsmen and women around the country in the omnibus spending package. Ensuring programs like the North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA) and the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) receive adequate funding is imperative to provide wildlife with the habitat they need and deserve. These investments aid in clean water practices that benefit not only wildlife, but people too."
