Colorado Wheat Field Days

Colorado Wheat Field Days

Next week begins the Colorado Wheat Field Days which will highlight new hard red and hard white winter wheat varieties developed by Colorado State University as well as other public and private breeding programs in the Great Plains region.

CSU Extension Agronomist Dr. Jerry Johnson provides the dates and locations for the annual Wheat Field Days

Johnson: "So June 8th we'll do Walsh, Lamar, and Brandon. Then June 9th we'll do Burlington and Genoa. Then we take the weekend off and we start on Monday, June 12th, at Orchard and Roggen. Then we have three again on the 13th at Julesburg, Haxtun — irrigated, and Yuma. Then finally o the 14th is the big field day in Akron.

These approximately hour long field days will all have either a meal or refreshments included. They are free and you can just show up at the right location and right time for the the field day.

If you need that list of dates, times and locations again — you can go to csucrops.com for a list of locations as well as directions.

Dr. Johnson continues with the benefit for wheat growers to attend these events.

Johnson: "I just want to encourage people to come out and take a look at the new varieties. A variety trial where we have all them up is like a laboratory experiment that has gone right. It is a good chance for people to witness what these varieties are really like."
