The Colorado Leadership Foundation is giving it's annual Legends of Agriculture Award to Bruff and Sandy Shea of Franktown.

CEO Brooke Fox says Calf at Lowell Ranch on Plum Creek is a 133-acre working educational ranch for people to experience and appreciate the importance of agriculture. They seek to inspire lives, nurture leaders, and build lasting relationships while passing on rural values and traditions.

"One of the things that Calf does is provide kids who don't have a farm or a ranch a place to raise their 4H livestock projects at the ranch. They see the dedication of our volunteers and I kind of like to think that it's rubbing off on them."

Fox says none of that would be possible without the support and generosity of people like the Sheas.

"They are just so giving. They say sure we'll help of course we will. And it's a wonderul trait to value and the kids in the community really benefit from those kinds of people. Each of the legends that we've chosen are just people from the community and they know that community service is just part of what we do."

This is the 9th year for the CALF Legends in Leadership award. Fox says all the winners exemplify Colorado's agricultural heritage through a mindset of cooperation, discipline, and personal excellence through their service to the community and young people.

The Sheas will be honored on July 28 at the Douglas County Events Center - at the kickoff of the Douglas County Fair and Rodeo.
