Agriculture's thought leaders are gathering in Fort Collins this week for an Ag Innovation Summit - the second of its kind in Colorado.

"The individuals who attend representing private business and entrepreneurs, government agencies, non-government agencies, education, we're really going to lean on them for their best ideas. We'll engage in a roundtable discussion about what does ag innovation ecosystem look like in Colorado, if we can lead the world in it and where can we make investments."

CSU Professor James Pritchett is helping organize the Ag Innovation Summit.

Pritchett says Kroger's Chief Technology Officer, Chris Hjelm will look at how the retail giant innovates to respond to changes in consumer preferences.

"There will be a day when you walk into a grocery store with your smart phone and it will be connected to your refrigerator. It's going to tell you what's close to expiring, what you need to get and here's a recipe and in aisle 8 you can find an ingredient for that recipe. When you think about how differentiated people's preferences have become and how they evolve as people's incomes rise and all the choices out there, being able to sort through that and creating apps and analytics to help you with that, that's kind of a neat innovation that we may know more about.

CSU President Tony Frank will discuss how innovation drives prosperity. Former Agriculture Secretary and CEO of the US Dairy Export Council, Tom Vilsack, will share the Pillars of Food Policy.
