Food Evolution The Documentary

The controversial subject of GMO's or genetically modified organisms is the topic of a documentary being screened in theatres and homes across Colorado and the U.S.

The Colorado Corn Administrative Committee (CCAC) helped sponsor a screening of the new documentary, "Food Evolution," in Boulder earlier this month.

Colorado Corn leaders are helping organize another screening of the film in Greeley on Nov. 14.

A GMO is a plant, animal, microorganism or other organism whose genetic makeup has been modified in a laboratory using genetic engineering. Is it good or bad for humanity? That's the question the documentary, narrated by Neil Degrasse Tyson, seeks to answer.

AUDIO FROM DOC: "So how do we make the most informed decisions about how we feed ourselves? "

The filmmaker addresses critics' concerns, but eventually comes to the conclusion that GMOs will allow the world to feed itself safely using fewer resources than historical farming and production methods.

Tyson says he had no expertise in the subject but it's no secret that man has been modifying organisms since the dawn of agriculture.

"There are no herd of wild milk cows wandering the countryside."

If you're interested in seeing the documentary the next screening sponsored by Colorado Corn and the Greeley Chamber of Commerce will be at the University of Northern Colorado on the 14th of November.
