The Colorado Department of Agriculture says 4 industrial hemp seed varieties have passed its THC validation and observation trial.

This is just the beginning of a process to bring new hemp based products to the market.

Industrial Hemp Certified Seed Specialist Terry Moran:

The seed varieties are eligible to be grown by the Colorado Seed Growers Association for production.

While hemp comes from the cannabis plant, it has lower or trace amounts of THC with no psychotropic effects.

Hemp seed are used in textiles, plastics, fuels and it's hardy stock is used in papermaking and construction materials. Hemp seeds are high in protein and amino and omega 3 fatty acids. Advocates say Hemp oil may have healing properties.

The CDA worked with the Colorado State University Research Centers and North Eastern Junior College during the growing process.

Seed varieties were grown and tested in the northeast, Arkansas Valley, Front Range, the San Luis Valley and on the western slope. That provides the CDA with a broad representation of Colorado's growing conditions.
