The 78th annual meeting of the Idaho Farm Bureau Federation got underway at the Fort Hall Resort in Eastern Idaho. Pres. Brian Searle welcomed over 300 members of the state’s largest general farm organization. “The Idaho Farm Bureau is a voluntary organization that is dedicated to strengthening agriculture and protecting the rights, values and profits of our members and their neighbors.” Convention coordinator Joel Benson said a lot goes into planning such a big event. “The process for one convention begins three years ahead of time. To be able to put in a group as big as the Farm Bureau, we have to be able to reserve a complete facility. At Fort Hall we take every sleeping room, every meeting room, and we do that three years in advance. About two years prior, things get moving in the last 12 months are really crazy but, it’s fun.” One of the many breakout sessions farmers and ranchers could attend was presented by Teton County farmer, Stephen Bagley. His concerns regard the management of water resources in Teton Valley and we will talk about that tomorrow.
