Millions of Americans go without regular healthy food while nearly 40 percent of of the overall food supply goes to waste according to the agriculture department.

Farmers, representatives of food banks, and business owners sat down together recently with Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue to discuss how to reduce food waste in America.

"It has to be a unified effort with everyone doing their own piece but how do you build a team spirit over the overall issue?

Consumers waste the most food, but some of it happens at the farm where farmers either can 't get enough people to harvest their crops or because it would be rejected by the consumer at the store.

The roundtable discussions were about raising food waste awareness and best practices for farmers and consumers.
