A recognition of the importance of farming and ranching to the state.

Final preparations are being made for the annual Ag Day festivities at Colorado State University. Held this year on September 22nd just before the CSU takes on Illinois State at Canvas Stadium.

Dr.James Pritchett, Executive Associate Dean in the College of Agricultural Sciences says one of the first classes taught at what was then Colorado Agricultural College in 1870, was in animal husbandry. It was a recognition of the importance of farming and ranching to the state.

"It was a key component of what economic development was to the state.

A life line for our rural communities and where we were able to leverage our agricultural heritage into a variety of different industries."

The Ag Day BBQ showcases Colorado agricultural growers and producers featured in the outdoor barbecue. Ag Day proceeds provide scholarships to Colorado State University agricultural science students.
