The Jackson family dairy farm in Meridian, Idaho started in 1953. Lots of people visit the dairy and on this day, it was a group of kids. Third generation dairy man Clint Jackson enjoys showing the Jersey cow farm to his guests. “They will need about 40 or 50 pounds a day so if you have a teenage boy you might be able to relate. They also drink a lot, if it’s a really hot day a dairy cow can drink a bathtub full of water per day.”

CEO of Dairy West, Karianne Fallow who was also visiting the dairy, pointed out how important the dairy industry is to Idaho’s economy. “Dairy is the largest agricultural commodity in our ag economy. We produce almost 15 billion pounds of milk a year. We are number one per capita in milk production.”

And as a special treat, everyone visiting the dairy got to eat a nice helping of ice cream to cool things down. All of that thanks to the cows of Idaho.
