Today is the day when once a year policy wonks and lawmakers, their staff and the Governor's office get together to share a meal and trade stories with Colorado's diverse agriculture professionals.

It's Ag Day at the Capitol, the annual event is hosted and organized by the Colorado Agriculture Council and the Colorado Chefs Association.

Terry Frankhauser Chair of the Agriculture Council and Executive Vice President of the Colorado Cattlemen's Association. He says today highlights the industry's efforts in feeding, fueling and clothing the state's 5+ million residents. It also makes clear of the its stewardship of the state's resources, and its economic impact - bringing in more than $40 billion annually and providing over 173,000 jobs.

"Everybody has perception of agriculture. What it is and what it isn't. This opportunity really helps them understand the broad spectrum of not only commodities but the diversity of ag production and producers. The real impact directly but more importantly indirectly. Tourism and recreation benefit hugely from agriculture because we maintain the view sheds."

"Many individuals don't really understand the full breadth and reach and depth of agriculture and this is a great way of doing that."

So today will be a fun way for ag producers, to share a meal with and share their concerns, fears and forecasts with lawmakers who are in positions to assist the ag industry in Colorado remain strong.

Ag Day at the Capitol teams local chefs with agriculture producers in a cook-off competition using Colorado-grown foods. The lunch is open to producers and those at the Capitol. About 1000 people are expected to attend.
