The Center for Food Integrity - an industry funded not for profit says American consumers are too often suspicious of food-based corporations.

The organization's CEO Charlie Arnot says there is a fundamental bias among family food buyers against size and scale..that the bigger companies will put profit ahead of public interest.

"We know that's not true. The people who work in agriculture, the men and women in ag are terrific. They've got values that really resonate, they're committed to doing what's right. But because of the size and scale of agriculture today it means greater questions."

Arnot spoke with Ag Info's Patrick Cavanaugh.

The Center for Food Integrity is an industry funded group which aims "to build consumer trust and confidence in the contemporary U.S. food system by sharing accurate, balanced information, correcting misinformation, modeling best practices and engaging stakeholders to address issues that are important to consumers."

Arnot is also the creator of Best Food Nation, a website launched by a group of food industry trade associations and lobby groups. The coalition states that the website was launched as a counter to "critics of our food system" who are "promoting their agendas using information that is inaccurate, misleading and incomplete." IT was launched to coincide with the film version of Eric Schlosser's book Fast Food Nation.
