Trade Issues with Newhouse Pt 2

I'm Bob Larson. We talked yesterday about the importance of Congress to quickly ratify the USMCA, the trade agreement with our two closest and biggest trading partners.

And while that may be tops on the trade priority list for many, especially for those in strong agricultural states, U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse says that doesn't mean a trade deal with China is any less important...

NEWHOUSE ... "I don't think it's a mutually exclusive thing. We should and need to do both, but as you know the trade negotiations are happening on the side of the administration and I'm just encouraging them, as much as I can, to get this work with China done as quickly as possible. We've said all along, it's not easy. We know that. They're tough negotiators. They're very intelligent, clever people and we need to bring our top game to be able to make sure that we have a good deal with them."

Newhouse says the trade tensions between the U.S. and China have gone on long enough and it's time to hammer out a solution that works for everyone ...

NEWHOUSE ... "It's tremendously important for both of us, both China and the United States, to do this. But, it's also important for the rest of the trading world. We're going to be setting the parameters, the rules for trading globally for a long time to come. You know, it's big stuff and it's important decisions that have to be made, but I think we've got to just keep working as hard as we can to get that done as well."

Newhouse says, since returning from the August recess, he's hearing plenty of trade talk and is optimistic actions will be coming soon on both fronts, the USMCA and China.
