Why Invest in Center Pivots or Lateral Move Irrigation Systems

Welcome to the Irrigation Minute brought to you by Reinke. Today we are talking with Reinke Director of Regional Sales Neil Lunzmann about why center pivots or lateral move systems are a wise investment for ag producers.
Lunzmann: “First off, the investment itself actually makes the land more valuable. Just simply for the fact of the irrigation. More than that, and the reason why most people buy it is because of the increased income and increased yields that come with irrigation. From the standpoint of water conservation and labor savings is huge.”
Lunzmann lists additional benefits of considering purchasing either center pivots or lateral move systems can act as insurance for dry years when precipitation is sporadic or even non-existent. In addition to reducing inputs of energy, fuel and water, using an irrigation system can help growers to use what they have more efficiently.
He shares how over the years growers have realized the value of irrigation.
Lunzmann: “Twenty five years ago we use to do a lot of economic justifications. People would say, ‘How do I know it pays?’ So we would go through the math — you are making this many bushels now. You could make this much with this and it will cost you this much so on and so forth. I haven’t done one of those in 15 years. People understand that when you add irrigation you get increased yields and it makes you more money.”
