Regional Weekly Hay Report

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.
Sanders: “Washington-Oregon Columbia Basin Hay Report — we had a little over 12,000 tons of hay trade this week. Compared to last Friday, preiumum/supreme alfalfa was steady. Trade is slow this shortened holiday week and Timothy export hay was $10 to $20 lower. Supreme quality large squares of alfalfa sold at $220. Good and premium export hay sold at $210. Alfalfa on the fair to good grades for export quality sold at $210 to $215 per ton. Timothy Grass for large squares on the premium sold at $205 and good/premium sold at $185 for export markets.”
In Idaho compared to previous week, good Alfalfa was steady in a light test during the holiday shortened week. Trade slow last week as high testing hay is hard to find due to high temperatures in the trade area. Demand was light to moderate and there was very light demand on low quality supplies. Alfalfa large square rated good sold fro $180 per ton. Organic large square alfalfa sold for $240 per ton.
In Oregon, compared to previous week, prices trended generally steady compared to the same quality the previous week. Trade activity increased a little last week, however many producers were still busy in the field with the new crop. In Central Oregon small alfalfa bales rated premium sold between $230 and $250 per ton. In Eastern Oregon fair to good rated new crop large square bales of alfalfa sold for $170 per ton. There were no new sales confirmed in Klamath Basin or Harney County.
