Weekly Regional Hay Market Update

Weekly Regional Hay Market Update

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.
Sanders: “We had right at 8,700 tons. Compared to last Friday, premium dairy alfalfa, export alfalfa and Timothy hay was all weak. Trade remains slow as most dairies want higher testing fifth cutting, but are offering lower prices for it. Large square alfalfa premium quality sold for $190 FOB the farm and fair and good hay sold for $125 tarped. Small squares of alfalfa premium sold for $250 to $260 for the retail and stable market. Good and premium export hay small bales sold at $200 to $205. Orchard grass sold at $250 to $275 for retail and stable markets.”
In Idaho compared to previous week, supreme, premium and good alfalfa is steady. Trade was slow last week as buyers have ample supplies on hand. Demand light to moderate with heavy supplies of feeder hay. Large square bales of alfalfa sold for $190 a ton, premium large squares sold for $170 per ton.
In Oregon, prices trended generally steady in comparison to the previous week. Export sales continue to be slow. In Central Oregon, small square bales of alfalfa rated premium were sold $250 per ton for the retail and stable market. In Eastern Oregon alfalfa/orchard mix small squares rated good sold for $190 per ton. In Klamath Basin premium organic large square alfalfa bales sold for $320 per ton. In Harney County, large square bales of alfalfa rated good sold for $150.
