Weekly Regional Hay Market Update

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.
Sanders: “This week we had 2,700 tons of hay trade. Compared to last Friday all grades of domestic and export alfalfa was weak to $10 lower in a light test. Perineum second cutting Timothy for export was weak to $30 lower in a light test. Trade remains slow and buyers remain cautious. Some new crop hay was reported being cut this week in the southern basin. Demand remains light to moderate. Alfalfa mid-squares good to premium for export sold for $125 to $130. Alfalfa for export small square bales premium sold for $170. Timothy grass small square for export market premium sold for $150 a ton.
In Idaho compared to the previous week all grades of Alfalfa steady to weak in a light test.Trade was slow with light demand. Supplies remain heavy. Mid-square bales of alfalfa rated supreme tarped sold between $115 and $125 per ton. Mid-squares of fair to good alfalfa sold for $80 a ton.
In Oregon, prices trended generally steady in a very limited test. In Klamath Basin, mid- squares of fair to good alfalfa sold for $125 per ton. In Lake County Alfalfa mid-squares rated good to premium that were bleached sold for $175 per ton. In Eastern Oregon large squares of alfalfa rated fair sold for $125. Harney County had no new sales confirmed.
