Precision Land Management

New Holland Marketing Manager for Precision Land Management Luke Zerby says that while originally precision farming meant auto guidance, with a growers being able to focus on the task at hand, rather than steering at a fixed point across the field. Moving forward, however, customers are choosing to take a step beyond with section control and rate control to maximize efficiencies and better manage the resources they already have.
Zerby: “And they have gone into section control and rate control to make sure that they are really maximizing their efficiencies by only putting those inputs exactly where they need them in the field. To really allow them to better manage what they are doing to work better hand in hand with what they already have in the soils with plants growing. So that’s where a lot of our guys are at today, but moving forward we’re seeing more and more producers and commercial operations looking at the data management part of it. How to take all that data that we have collected with this equipment and really make those management decisions. So instead of making a choice right now with auto guidance where we can save several $1,000 a year by not having skips or overlaps — making sure that we are doing that type of thing correctly. And now going with the data management the money we can save or improve is actually exponential on that because of making better management decisions — choosing the right crop, the right fertilizer, and the right amounts.”
