FSA County Committee Nomination Period Has Begun

The Nomination period has started for USDA Farm Service Agency’s County Committees. To be eligible to serve on a FSA county committee, a person must participate or cooperate in an FSA administered program, be eligible to vote in a count committee election and reside in the local administrative area in which they are nominated. Washington Farm Service Agency Outreach Coordinator Chris Bieker shares more details about what the position entails.
Bieker: This time of the year the Farm Service Agency is seeking nominations for County Committees. These County Committees are really important to farmers and ranchers. The County Committees hear appeals from farmers and ranchers if they disagree with a Farm Service Agency decision we make about program payments. County Committees also hire county executive directors that is the manager in the FSA offices. Throughout the country we are in a period where we have had a lot of retirements so we are hiring county executive directors. So this is a number of ways that the county committees have an impact on the FSA and the programs and the service that we are able to deliver to farmers and ranchers
Bieker continues with more about the nomination process.
Bieker: “August first is the nomination deadline. Someone can either nominate themselves or they can nominate other farmers and ranchers in their area. Those nomination forms can be found at the local Farm Service Agency offices or can be found online at the Farm Service Agency Website.”
