Regional Weekly Hay Report

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.
Sanders: “We had about 21,000 tons of hay trade this week. Compared to last Friday, all grades of export and domestic alfalfa and export Timothy were steady to weak. Thunder storms across the trade area this week slowed trade. Retail/feedstore hay was steady in a light test. Alfalfa good to premium for export sold at $150. Small squares of alfalfa for the retail/stable market sold for $175. Good and fair export alfalfa on the small square bales sold at $120. Alfalfa orchard mix for the retail/stable market sold for $220 to $230 per ton. And Timothy grass for the export market mid-square bales of the premium quality sold from $180 to $200 per ton.”
In Idaho compared the previous week export alfalfa was steady in a light test. Trade was slow with very light demand. Mid-square bales of alfalfa rated premium sold for $135 per ton for export.
In Oregon, prices trended generally steady compared to the previous week.Most demand lays with the retail/stable hay. Recent rain storms has slowed movement this past week. In Lake CountyTimothy grass large squares rated premium for export sold for $300 per ton. In Klamath Basin large squares of alfalfa rated fair with rain damage sold for $100 per ton. In Eastern Oregon alfalfa large squares rated good to premium sold for $125 per ton. In Harney County small square of orchard/Timothy mixed grass for retail/stable market sold for $175 per ton.
