Regional Weekly Hay Report

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.

Sanders: "We had 1,000 tons of hay trade compared to two weeks ago. All grades of export alfalfa steady in a light test. Trade slow with light to moderate demand. Retail/feedstore hay not tested this week. Alfalfa mid-square bales on the good quality were $100 to $110 per ton on the export market. Sudan grass mid-square bales on the good quality sold for $115 also for export market."

In Idaho compared to two weeks ago all grades of alfalfa steady in a light test. Trade remains slow with very light demand. Mid squares of alfalfa rated rated fair to good tarped sold between $80 and $85 per ton. Mid-squares of alfalfa rated fair with rain damage sold for $75 per ton. Oat mid-square bales rated good sold for $45 per ton.

In Oregon prices trended generally steady compared to two weeks ago. Most demand lays with the retail/stable hay market. Many hay producers are looking forward to upcoming snow in the forces as hay sales tend to increase when snow comes. In Central Oregon small squares of good to premium alfalfa sold for $220 per ton for the retail/stable market. In Lake County large squares of alfalfa rated supreme sold for $170 per ton for export. In Eastern Oregon large squares of fair alfalfa sold for $100 per ton. Klamath Basin large squares of alfalfa rated supreme sold between$175 to $180 per ton. In Harney County no new sales were confirmed.
