Increase to BPIA Membership

The mission of the Biopesticide Industry Alliance or BPIA is to increase the awareness of biopesticides as effective products for ag producers as well as striving to improvement the regulatory process for its members products. For the past several years, the organization has seen an increase in its membership. BPIA Executive Director Keith Jones shares more about the organization’s growth over the past year.

Jones: “We actually added 25 new member-companies in 2016. We expect to do that again in 2017 potentially we might double that. We could add another 50 companies. What drove the growth in 2016 was really industry growth, consumer demand — there is a greater demand of these products. There are more of these products — biopesticides and also bio-stimulants. Consumers want these kind products to be used. Now there are all these new technologies that are cost-effective. They are definitely efficacious. They have a proven track record. So that drove a lot of our 2016 growth.”
Jones says that BPIA’s membership options are being increased.
Jones: “So we are making a move in 2017, we’ve expanded our categories so know we include formerly bio-stimulant manufacturers, service providers — anyone really who works in that area —- but we’ve also added a category for growers, and we’ve added a category for food processors. At BPIA, we want really to be the voice of the entire industry — so we have to have the entire industry participating in our association. So much of the work we do is on the Hill, talking with folks in the Senate and in the House, and EPA and USDA. So when we speak with them, we really want to speak on behalf of the entire industry.”
