Regional Weekly Hay Report

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.

Sanders: "We had 9,350 tons of hay trade. Compared to last week, export and domestic alfalfa firm to $5 higher. Trade was moderate this week as exporters and feeder hay buyers showed more interest with good demand. Premium quality alfalfa in the mid square bales for the export market sold for $115 per ton. Good quality mid-square bales for the export market sold between $98 and $125. Timothy on the premium on the mid-square bales sold $170 in the export market."

In Idaho compared to the previous week domestic alfalfa was firm. Trade turned active with very good demand as supplies are in firm hands and winter is still around in some places. Mid squares of alfalfa rated premium tarped sold between $110 to $120 per ton and mid-square alfalfa rated fair/good tarped $80 per ton.

In Oregon prices trended generally steady in a limited test compared to the previous week's prices. Most demand is with the retail/stable hay. In Central Oregon small square premium alfalfa bales sold for $220 per ton. In Eastern Oregon large squares of mixed grass rated utility sold for $45 per ton with rain damage. In Lake County large squares of premium to supreme rated alfalfa sold for $170 per ton for the export market. In Klamath Basin small squares of orchard grass sold for $160 per ton for the retail/stable market. Harney County had no new sales confirmed.
