Promoting Local Colorado Produce

One of the best benefits of summer is all of the available fresh produce. The Colorado Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association are asking consumers to buy local produce. To help consumers know when Colorado produce is available the CFVGA has published a Colorado Produce Calendar. Executive Director Marilyn Drake shares more

Drake: "The best way to find what is in season is to go to coloradoproduce.org and look at the directory and click on a produce item and found out more information about that as well as the timeframe that you can look for that fresh item. We are saying when possible fresh is best. It just tastes better because it hasn't sat or traveled or been preserved to travel for as long of a time. So if you can purchase Colorado-grown or locally-grown produce is going to taste great."

Drake continues with additional reasons why buying Colorado produce is a great choice

Drake: "Another reason that we talk about buying local is just keep those dollars in your state in your local area. That is always such a positive thing to support your neighbors rather than someone across the country and across the world. Also another reason for buying local is when you go to a Farmers' Market or roadside stand or even the grower's farm it is really nice to get to visit with them, put a face with the produce, understand what they are doing and why they are doing it."
