President Donald Trump addressed the 99th American Farm Bureau Federation Annual Convention last week. He discussed the farm bill, telling the audience he supports passage of an on-time farm bill that includes crop insurance.

Trump used the appearance to sign two presidential orders expanding access to broadband internet in rural America.

Trump also made a small mention of NAFTA, saying his administration is working to renegotiate NAFTA to make the agreement better for agriculture.

“On NAFTA, I’m working very hard to get a better deal for our country and for our farmers and for our manufacturers,” Trump told the audience at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center. “It’s not the easiest negotiation, but we’re going to make it fair for you people again. We want to see even more victories for the American farmer and the American rancher.”

Trump discussed tax reform and the relief he says it will bring to farmers and ranchers and pointed to the estate tax changes.

"From now on, most family farms and most business owners will be spared ... the punishment of the deeply unfair estate tax, known as the death tax, so you can keep your farms in the family."

Trump called farmers the basis of society, and true friends of liberty, concluding his speech saying “farm country is god’s country.”
