Drought Returns to the West

Drought --- it's a word farmers and ranchers alike don't like to hear.

Drought is enough to keep farms from irrigating at acceptable levels, and makes the range grasses go away for ranchers. Drought is one of those things you can't control.

USDA meteorologist, Brad Rippey, says a return to drought in much of the western United States is putting a strain on the area's ecosystem, which has still not fully recovered yet from the last drought.

"Remember that a lot of areas in the west including California coming off a 4 to 5 year drought depending on what part of the area looking at and we had one too wet years then and now he's going back into drought again across the vast majority of Western United States some of the ecosystems still have not fully recovered from that four to five year drought we have a slew of dead or dying trees affected by disease and drought across the West not just California but that extends Eastward to the central and southern Rockies as well and so now you put another year of drought"

Meteorologists say, there is still plenty of time for mother nature to reedeem herself and boost the snowpack to help farmers and ranchers this spring and summer.
