Farmers Need to Tell the Real Story

State legislative session are underway across the nation and farmers are being encouraged to get involved. As the well-known population distribution favors urban areas, often so does the balance of rural and urban lawmakers.

Mary Anne Cooper is with the Farm Bureau, and says farmers cannot be discouraged, and they need to continue to tell their story not only to educate lawmakers, but their neighbors as well.

Cooper says with so many key pieces of legislation before state lawmakers it's important that farmers make calls, write letter or even travel to their state capitol.

And while it can be time consuming, it's important farmers remember that fewer and fewer lawmakers are connected to the Ag industry, which increases the need of active communication.

Cooper says agriculture must always keep the conversation open, or someone else will take the storytelling place of farmers and ranchers.
