Dairy Price Hikes and Methane Conversion

Dairy farmers have had a difficult couple of years, and something happening in May is not helping.

The public is being urged to ditch dairy as part of a vegan-led initiative called 'MooFree May'. The campaign, now in its second year, was created by vegan charity Viva!.

But some good news --- The USDA says, Dairy is one of two food categories whose retail prices this year may be above the 20 - year average.

And Dairy farmers are also looking to take advantage of the backside of the cows now too...

Oregon's largest dairy farm plans to turn millions of gallons of cow manure into renewable natural gas.

Threemile Canyon Farms in Boardman already uses waste from about 30,000 cows to generate electricity on site using a methane digester built in 2012. Now the farm wants to expand the facility and install new equipment that will convert the methane into "pipeline quality" natural gas.
