Just like other walks of life and in business, hard data and other sources of information can save you time and money.

It's the same in Agriculture.

The Farm Business Network has a mission to bring more data to farmers - which helps in purchasing and decision making.

Charles Baron is co-founder of the Farmers Business Network and says they are now helping over 8,000 farmers in both Canada and the United States. He says one of the biggest things they've done which applies to almost every crop in every region is provide price transparency.

"Every grower has got to buy seed and chemicals and fertilizers and other primary inputs. And the challenge of those markets when you go to buy is that those prices are not often openly published or shared with farmers" said Baron. "So, it makes shopping around a challenge and it prevents the amount of competition that farmers should expect for their business. So, what FBN does and allows growers to actually share prices together they can share invoices and they can see what other farmers are paying around the country. They can see what other farmers are paying in their region. And then we actually have an e-commerce platform."

He says, many of the FBN team members are farmers, grew up on farms, or have a deep connection to the land, so this is personal mission for many of them.
