03/07/06 Crop insurance changes and deadline

Farm and Ranch March 7, 2006 USDA's Risk Management Agency is reminding Pacific Northwest producers that March 15th is the final sales closing date for 2006 spring seeded Multi-Peril Crop Insurance. That's excluding wheat and canola in counties with Fall and Spring planted types and cabbage and onions, for which the deadline has already passed. Jo Lynne Seufer with the regional Risk Management Office says there have been some program expansions in the region for 2006. Seufer: "And that is for dry beans in Lewis County, Idaho and garbanzos in Lincoln County, Washington. Corn and silage in Clallam County, Washington is a new expansion we announced this year as well as Bannock and Power counties in Idaho. Dry peas and lentils is another exciting expansion we have done in Walla Walla County and in Umatilla County in Oregon. Australian winter peas along with lentils and smooth green and yellows in Lincoln County, Washington is another expansion." Also for 2006 the Group Risk Plan and Group Risk Income Protection is available for corn grain and silage growers in Canyon and Twin Falls Counties in Idaho, Malheur County Oregon and Grant and Yakima Counties in Washington. County yield averages are used in those programs. Again March 15th is the sales closing date and that's the deadline for the Adjusted Gross Revenue Lite program too.
