Farm and Ranch April 7, 2006 You can discover the latest trends in consumer demand for healthy foods with an emphasis on locally grown, sustainable products and how the industry is responding by attending the first annual meeting and conference of the Access to Healthy Food Coalition. The event is April 27th at Chateau Ste. Michelle in Woodenville, Washington from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. And Karen Bonaudi of the Washington State Potato Commission, who is also vice chair of the coalition's board, says the two conference keynote speakers are dynamite. One is award winning author Roberta Duyff. Bonaudi: "Who is well know for setting standards in nutrition and writing about it so well that the message is appealing to people who aren't just pure registered dieticians and like that." The other keynoter is Marsha Guerrero from the Chez Panisse Foundation. Bonaudi: "Chey Panisse is a really high end restaurant down in the Berkeley area. And the famous chef that is down there, Alice Waters, decided to put together a program called The Edible Schoolyard, where school children can grow food and learn how to grow food, where their food comes from and how to eat well." You can get more information about the conference and register online at www.accesstohealthyfoods.org That's the Northwest Farm and Ranch Report. Brought to you in part by the Washington State Potato Commission. Nutrition today! Good health tomorrow! I'm Bob Hoff on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
