06/14/06 Washington`s Lind Fiield Day tomorrow

Farm and Ranch June 14, 2006 Washington State University's Lind Field Day is tomorrow at the Dryland Research Station north of Lind. WSU research agronomist Bill Schillinger says registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with plot tours at nine. He says there will be presentations on winter and spring wheat breeding from Steve Jones and Kim Kidwell, plus: Schillinger: "There will be a presentation on late planted winter wheat on chemical fallow. Another presentation on available water and grain yield relations on some long term data from the station. There will be a session on fertility strategies for hard red winter wheat. A lot of growers in this region are very interested in hard red winter wheat because of the higher price compared to soft white. A session also on the current economics of dryland winter wheat production." There will also be an update on oilseed crushing facilities in the Pacific Northwest. Schillinger: "And also a session on the basics of winter canola production in the summer fallow region. With that in mind realizing that winter canola looks to be one of the few alternative crops that would hold some potential here in our typical summer fallow regions." The field day is free and open to the public and this year there is a hosted lunch where WSU CAHNERS Dean Dan Bernardo will speak as well as commodity group representatives. The event concludes with an ice cream social. I'm Bob Hoff and that's the Northwest Farm and Ranch Report on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
