TRICHOMONIASIS is an STD in cows that is very familiar to Idaho. Here is Idaho State veterinarian Dr. Bill Barton. "We were actually the first state in the U.S. to institute rules to govern trichomoniasis in the U.S."

That said, Trichomoniasis or Trich for short, can have a devastating impact on beef herds. Trich can spread quickly during breeding season, reducing the potential size of calf crops. Dr. John Davidson, Senior Associate Director of Beef Professional Veterinary Services at Boehringer Ingelheim, talks about what a Trich outbreak can cost a cattle producer. Producers will also have to bear the costs of testing and vaccinating the rest of their herds in order to get breeding patterns back to where they were. Incorporating the Trich vaccination into herds located in high-risk areas is another key priority. From an economic standpoint, there's a lot of benefit to vaccinating cattle herds against Trich
