Cantwell On Ex/Im Bank

Cantwell On Ex/Im Bank. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.

Senator Maria Cantwell visited L'Ecole Winery in Lowden to highlight the need to re-authorize the Export/Import Bank. She talks about the importance of the bank on businesses like L'Ecole.

CANTWELL: This bank is a critical part of this business community. How do you finance the export of U.S. products to overseas markets. For me, we're here to talk about a great entrepreneurial spirit that exists here in Walla Walla and everybody that has made great success. So we want those products that are made right here to be on the shelves in Seoul and Beijing and Berlin and we want to make sure that they have the important tools that it takes to be those world class exporters.

Cantwell believes that without re-authorizing the Ex/Im Bank people like Marty Clubb of L'Ecole Winery will not have the opportunity to share their products with the world.

CANTWELL: Well the Export/Import Bank has been this vital tool that has helped businesses reach those international markets and it's an export credit agency that that credit allows some security for those who finance those products and the people who actually make them and sell them.

And she says it's not just about wineries here in the state but a wide variety of manufacturing will suffer if the bank is not re-authorized.

CANTWELL: That means that the resources to fund deals won't be there for the future.
