Cherry Wrap Up

Cherry Wrap Up. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.

The 2014 cherry crop is in the record books. And according to the final figures it was a record crop of 23.5 million boxes. The interesting thing is that from start to finish the harvest was done in 77 days so a very compressed window. June saw shipments of 10.8 million boxes while July increased to 12.8. August was the cleanup month with a fraction of either June or July's shipments. The industry saw an unprecedented 34 day streak where it averaged 502,000 boxes per day. The largest shipment day in NWC history – July 11th, with a total of 665,936 boxes. Rainier cherries saw their second largest shipments in history with 2.06 million boxes. 2012 was the biggest year for Rainier's. All in all, 2014 was one of the smoothest crops as weather conditions were good from beginning to end allowing for good sizing and a smooth harvest.

That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
