BASF Merivon for Apples

BASF Merivon for Apples

BASF Merivon for Apples. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

It’s time to be getting back into the orchards and making preparations for the 2015 growing season. Nick Schweizer, Crop Protecting Marketing with BASF talks about how BASF can help.

SCHWEIZER: If you look back at the 2014 season, the weather was not perfect all the time, there’s certainly concerns around water and our biggest concern with our business is around those disease pressures that in 2014 that can really pull pull down yields and quality when you look at those apple orchards. And I think as we look ahead to 2015 our number one goal is to help growers with those issues around improving their yield potential and making sure at the end of the day they get those higher quality apples.

Schweizer recommends a hard look at their new Merivon fungicide.

SCHWEIZER: Merivon is sort of a new product that’s being launched into pome and stone and we’re going to have all those MRL’s lined up this year so our recommendation is that proactive application of Merivon fungicide. And what you’re going to get with Merivon is that consistent disease control and a little bit more extended residual protection versus what you saw with Pristine.

He says they have done some interesting research around advanced plant health benefits.

SCHWEIZER: At the end of the day, it means improving yield potential and fruit quality. One of the other things around that advanced plant health piece we’ve looked at is an increase in that stress tolerance piece which makes those trees again more capable of withstanding all of those issues we talked about in 2014 around weather and potential water issues and some of those disease pressures.

More on this tomorrow.
