Survey Coming

Survey Coming. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.

This September you will receive the 2014 Agricultural Peak Employment Wage and Practices Survey. Roxana Macias, Program Manager for wafla explains.

MACIAS: The goal is to establish prevailing wages and prevailing practices in agriculture and those prevailing are used for H-2A but it doesn't only dictate how H-2A is run, it would be any grower or user of the resources at like WorkSource to find labor or anything like that that would be held to this standards that this survey deems are necessary.

They will be holding a webinar that is open to anyone.

MACIAS: The reason that we're so concerned about it is because when you read it, it's really skewed. So we're concerned that if our members or just people in the ag industry don't understand it, don't understand really what the questions are asking and don't understand how they will be applied it'll really make it hard to continue using the H-2A program. I mean, there's some questions that if you answer yes you're going to be bound to providing housing for families for seasonal workers.

The webinar is slated for Wednesday, September 9th from 11 to noon.

MACIAS: It's available to anyone that's interested and we want to reach as many people in agriculture as possible and what we're going to do in that webinar is run through question by question what it's asking and what implications it could have.

That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network of the West.
